Marco Island City Council elected Jared Grifoni as its vice-chair in a 5-2 vote and unanimously re-elected Erik Brechnitz as chair during Monday's council meeting… Grifoni served as council's vice-chair from 2016 to 2017 and chair from 2017 to 2018, according to the city's website. - Read more here: Marco Eagle, 11/6/19




In light of this, city councilor Jared Grifoni said Friday during the City Council meeting that Madeira appears not to care about the law



“There’s a difference between someone making an unintentional mistake and what I think amounts to […] reckless disregard for the laws which is what we appear to have here,” Grifoni said. “Maybe we can […] increase the fines for intentional reckless conduct that are much heftier than where we are at right now while still providing just a sliver of leeway for someone who makes a mistake.” - Read more here: Marco Eagle, 10/30/19

"A status quo is unacceptable at this stage," Grifoni said. "We have to remember that minor repairs [...] for a lot of people they can be done," Grifoni said. "But when you get to bigger numbers, if you have to replace a significant portion of your sidewalk, that can get easily up to or over $10,000 or $15,000."


"It just seems un-American that this property that the city owns, you are required to maintain and you are required to replace in full," Grifoni said.
